Fresco DBFLYG and Low The Great have teamed up for a new joint project in The District EP, featuring booming trap production that doesn’t take long to hook you in. Fresco is compelling in his storytelling and delivery throughout the four track tape, especially evident in his infectious flow that steals the show on “Gentrification.”
The project paints a haunting picture of life in their neighborhood, snatching your attention from the jump with a news report about a shooting just outside of Crenshaw High School. “I still remember the days, on the block tryna get paid / Niggas so stuck in their ways, trying to get out of this maze” raps Fresco on “Hustle” as soon as the report fades into the background, as Low The Great’s pounding bass hits ratchet up the intensity. It’s a more soulful soundscape on “Can’t Get Enough” thanks to a sample of Barry White’s “Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe,” but still filled with plenty of energy for a fresh take on the soothing melodies.
There’s plenty to get excited about on The District EP, a compact project with plenty of replay value that will keep you coming back for more. Listen to the new EP below:
